Crossing the English Channel

The shortest distance between England and France is 20miles or 32 kilometres, cars can cross the channel by tunnel or Car Ferry. In early 2026 foot passengers can go by direct train to Lille, there are no intermediate stops available. P&O Ferries are the only company that will take foot passengers between Dover and Calais. Le touquet has an airport, it's named after Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. There are no scheduled flights, but if there are enough of you, a charter flight or an air taxi might be a viable option.

 

Car Ferry

There are three cross-channel ferry operators operating on this route; Irish Ferries, P&O Ferries and DFDS.

DFDS is a pan European ferry operator, who operates Dover to Calais, the nearest port to le Touquet, as well as Dover to Dunkirk. It also operates  Newhaven Dieppe, which gives you more options for a holiday which includes Le Touquet.

If you want a quieter crossing, or if you've experienced a busy ferry with lots of coaches and busy restaurants, you may appreciate the DFDS Premium Lounges on Dover - Calais and Dover - Dunkirk . Soft and alcoholic drinks are available as well as sandwiches, baguettes and hot rolls, which are included in the cost of the lounge.

There are plans for DFDS to inaugurate a link from Rosyth in Scotland to Dunkirk, present estimates indicate early 2027.

 

Foot Passengers

Rail

The railway station for Le Touquet is located in the neighbouring town of Etaples and is officially called Etaples Le Touquet. Reachable in a few hours from London, Paris or Brussels.

In Early 2026 there are no intermediate stops available on the High Speed line between London and Lille. Go to Trainline or French Railways SNCF to make a booking. Look carefully at the itinerary offered, sometimes you're offered a routing via Paris which may be the fastest, but more expensive. A little waiting time will ensure less hours on trains and a better price.

 

Car Ferry for foot passengers

The shortest distance between London and Le Touquet is via Dover and Calais, although not necessarily the quickest.

Only P&O Ferries will take foot passengers between Dover and Calais. You have to arrive at Dover Eastern Docks Passenger Terminal 90 minutes before scheduled depsrture time, the crossing takes about 90 minutes and then you have to wait about 30 minutes before you can disembark. disembark. There is then a free shuttle that will take to to Calais Ville railway station. From there there are direct trains to Etaples Le Touquet, although sometimes there may be a change of train involved.
